Weekend Wanderer: Day 1 (recap)

"You should never go to Alaska as a young man because you'll never be satisfied with any other place as long as you live."

-John Muir

Greetings from Ketchikan!

I arrived here about noon yesterday and immediately set off to see the place. I don't pick up my rental car till today, so most of my explorations were limited to downtown near my motel. Fortunately, my lodging is near Creek Street, which is a famous part of town and a hot spot for tourists, so I had plenty to see and shoot. I've been wanting to shoot Creek Street ever since this trip fell into my lap and despite the rough weather (It rains here...ALOT), I was able to get a shot that I love.

Far edge of Creek Street. Got this shot with my Canon 5d Mark 2 last night at about 9pm (notice how bright the sky still is).

As pretty and iconic as it is now, during the 1920's Creek Street was actually Ketchikan's red light district, or as they say around here, a place "Where more men than fish went upstream to spawn."

Because of the challenging weather, most of my shots from yesterday were taken with my Iphone, which is great in it's own right; but I always prefer to shoot with my Canon when possible.

I woke up at 5:30am today and it already looked like it was noon outside! In a few hours, I get to pick up my rental car and then the real exploration begins! Stay tuned!
