Weekend Wanderer: Day 2 (Recap)

"Not all those who wander are lost"

J. R. R. Tolkien

Yesterday was a treat. My old friend Lori from Los Angeles hit me up a few days ago saying she'd be in Ketchikan at the same time as me. I met up with her and her husband, Jared, at The Asylum for a few early morning beers. I definitely recommend this place - reminded me of Austin.

From there I got in my rental car and took off to explore Ward Lake and the surrounding areas. I don't know if I mentioned it, but it rains a lot in Ketchikan. A LOT! Fortunately, I love when things don't go as planned and took it as an opportunity to challenge myself.

This shot looked good in color, but it was still falling flat. It wasn't evoking the same response as I felt while seeing it thru my viewfinder. But when I converted it to black and white, all of a sudden it popped and I got an amazing image. Shot with Canon 5d Mark II

Hard to tell, but this was taken at one of the few times I actually saw the sun through the clouds. Shot with Canon 5d Mark II

Chico's! That sign is misleading. It's also the best Mexican food in town. Thanks again, Patty! The chimichanga was amazing!

After getting back into town, I took a much needed shower and went to a quaint little place called Chico's for dinnesr. Another old friend from Los Angeles had told me that his aunt owned the place so I thought I'd check it out. His aunt Patty, fortunately, was working and was very welcoming.

I know I already posted a shot of Creek Street, but this is an iconic image and I couldn't leave Ketchikan without taking a stab at it. I absolutely love the way this shot turned out. Shot with Canon 5d Mark II

After two days exploring this place, I can understand why so many people seek refuge in Alaska. There's a humbleness to people here and a simplicity in the day to day energy behind things.

It's about 8:30am here and I'm off to find some new trouble to get into today. Wish me luck!

Never stop exploring!
